Check what you can do after the tutor closes

An original self-study worksheet for separating assisted progress from an independent explanation and a new problem.

THE SHORT ANSWER

A helpful study conversation is a process; independent performance is a separate observation.

Correct the timeline first

A January 2026 archived post calls Guided Learning a new launch. Google’s primary introduction is dated 6 August 2025 and describes guided questioning and learning interactions. The later post is therefore a rediscovery, not the original release date. Neither a product description nor an engaging conversation establishes what a particular learner will retain or transfer.

Choose a small learning target

For an adult self-study exercise, choose one concept you can explain or apply in a few minutes, such as tracing a simple loop. Write an unaided answer first. During the tutor session, record how much help you use: a nudge, a worked step or a supplied answer. Then close the tutor and attempt a different problem that requires the same concept.

Review the evidence modestly

Compare the reasoning in the two unaided attempts, not just whether the assisted exercise was completed. Revisit a fresh example later and record what you can still explain. The downloadable sheet is an original personal observation aid, not a validated learning assessment or claim of educational effectiveness. No learner session or product test was conducted, and the protocol makes no recommendation about children’s accounts or sensitive learner data.

Put it to work.

  • Define one learning target.
  • Save an unaided first attempt.
  • Record help received.
  • Try a new problem unaided.

Take the template.
